![]() Typing a single letter can take 5-10 seconds to appear. Making simple text selections can take 5-10 seconds. I highlight some text, open the drop-down font list, start looking for a font and randomly the font list will close, sometimes even applying fonts I have not selected.Īnother scenario, after making a text selection, I will start to type the name of the font I am looking for and half way through typing the name of the font the menu will auto-close it will now be editing the text I had selected instead! Not sure if these are a Suitcase Fusion issues or Adobe Indesign issues but I’d like to know if anyone else suffers from them or has solutions.Īutomatically applying/comiting changes to font selections prematurely. Suitcase is on version 6, what can I do to resolve this? as it was working fine before I updated the OS or CC so it is one of those two things that caused the issue. This is causing a loss of speed as we have multiple files and versions of fonts per day.Īt present no updates to other programs seem to correct the issue, I have a late 2013 iMac operating on High Siera 10.13. Now when this happens, in order to get the unactivated font into indesign, or illustrator, I have to entirely restart indesign or illustrator, and then activate the font, and then open INDD/AI. Previously if I opened an indesign doc and it had the version I don’t have activated, I could go to suitcase and activate it, and it would ping into the doc. But the issue is, at my agency we have multiple version of the same font, say Helvetica. Once I click install the fonts all work as normal. The two plug ins are: 490 leading to the file APS// extensions localized (this one is related to Illustrator) AND 17.90 leading to the file cs6/plugins/fontactivation (this one is realted to indesign) It then has a long list of plug ins installed, most of them say installed and are greyed out with a tick in the box, on two of them however they are highlighted with blue ticks and you have to click install. it then refers me to /usr/bin/corecli (no idea what that means?) What happens is when the computer restarts Suitcase opens up and says to contact my system administrator, plug ins can’t work. I run Windows 7.I have had this problem since i updated from os el capitan to the high sierra os and latest version of CC a few months ago. At least that was my experience.Īnyways, I'm now happy with Suitcase 5. For those who may have the same problem, when you uninstall Font Explorer you also have to manually remove the plugin file from the plugins folder of each application - InDesign etc. It turned out that the software was looking for my Font Explorer install, which I thought I had thoroughly uninstalled. One problem I did have, was trouble with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop freezing on me. It's way easier than previous versions to add fonts and in all it's just been doing everything that could be expected, smooth as can be. ![]() I've upgraded to Suitcase 5 and haven't had a single problem (yet). There could be a setting to avoid doing this. It also required me to click OK to activate fonts, or do something of that nature, each time. It took longer than Suitcase to activate fonts each time I opened a file. It was 2 months or so ago - a long time for my pea brain to recall. I don't even recall exactly what it was that I didn't care for with Explorer X. Probably more of a personal nature in that I was accustomed to Suitcase for a number of years, despite that it peed me off on occassion. There were little things about it that I didn't care for. I gave the Font Explorer trial about 3 weeks. ![]() I'm glad this topic picked up again because I've intended to report in. Type management built from a company which has a solid history of type development. So the question you should ask yourself is, do you trust your Ferrari to the Yugo mechanic or do you bring it to the Ferrari mechanic?įontExplorer has given me infinitely less problems in it's entire short history than Suitcase did the first year alone that I used it when it first came out back in the day. Linotype develops & distributes typefaces. ![]() So with that being said, here's a cold, hard fact.įontExplorerX is made by Linotype. There's pro's and cons to every piece of software and fonts are a particualr pain in the arse, as they utilize a lot of system resources. I've gone back and forth from one solution to the next, never bearing allegiance to any software developer. I've been dealing with font management for decades, since the early pre OSX versions of Mac OSs. It's obvious, as with anything, that people tend to like that which they use and they'll defend it vehemently, to the point of making themselves look foolish. ![]()
